The song was written by Mars, Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine, and produced by The Smeezingtons, Emile Haynie, Jeff Bhasker and Mark Ronson who also co-produced two other songs on the album. "Gorilla" is a rock song about making love like wild animals. The song features on Now That's What I Call Music! 86 despite only peaking at #62 on the UK Singles Chart. This song is the 15th track onNow 49.
Mars said that it was "the first song we wrote for this album and it really set the tone for the entire project and it kind of became the mascot", stating that it was the reason why there's a gorilla on the cover of the album. The song has often been compared to the unabashedly sex-inspired works by Prince.
Musically, the song received mixed to positive reviews from music critics who praised its early 1980s arena rock tendencies fused with power pop hooks, though "Gorilla" has been criticized for its explicit lyrical content.
The official remix features American singers Pharrell Williams and R. Kelly.

It was compared to the works of Michael Jackson. It received favorable reviews from music critics, who noted that it is a "nostalgic" intoxicating and melodramatic track.

It was released as the lead single from the album on October 1, 2012 and serviced to mainstream radio in the United States by Atlantic Records on the same date. The song was written by Mars, Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine, and produced by Mark Ronson, Jeff Bhasker, Emile Haynie and The Smeezingtons. "Locked Out of Heaven" is a new wave, funk and reggae rock song. The song's lyrics are about the rapturous feelings brought about by a relationship infused with positive emotion as well as good sex.

"Locked Out of Heaven" was well received by most critics, some of whom complimented Mars' different musical direction, his vocals were praised, being called "smooth" and "sweet," while its sound was lauded, with the song being called "interesting" and a "musical evolution". While others music critics noted the song influences by a number of bands, with The Police being most cited, Mars admitted that he was influenced by the band to write the song. The single charted inside the top-ten in over twenty countries, including the United States, where it became Mars' third number one single on the Billboard Hot 100, where it spent six consecutive weeks and topped the Canadian Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks. "Locked Out of Heaven" was certified quadruple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

"Natalie" is a song by American singer-songwriter Bruno Mars from his second studio album, Unorthodox Jukebox. The song was written and produced by The Smeezingtons, Paul Epworth and Benny Blanco. The song is about a gold digger whose name is "Natalie", in the lyrical content, it's revealed that she stole Mars' money and ran away with it, while Mars is plotting a murderous revenge against her.
"Everyone's asking me who this Natalie woman is", Mars said in his MTV First Interview. "and, you know, as a song-writer I don't know how it works, it started off, you know, a girl stole my watch, and then this girl turns into this Natalie and I take it to the extreme, I feel like... It's gotta be from somewhere... I wrote the shit", he added "We all been there once or twice".

The song was written by The Smeezingtons, Khalil Walton and Needlz and produced by The Smeezingtons, and Needlz.[2] It was released in the United States on July 20, 2010. It has also received airplay from AOL Radio's New Pop First station. The track was added to BBC Radio 1 A Playlist in the United Kingdom, and was released in the United Kingdom on September 19, 2010 as "Just the Way You Are (Amazing)".

The debut single received generally positive reviews from critics, who considered it a stand-out track on Doo-Wops & Hooligans and praised The Smeezington's production. It won a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal at the 2011 ceremony. The song peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and Mainstream Top 40 charts and charted in the top five in other countries. It was certified 5 times Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and 6 times by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). Initially released as a promotional single on September 28, 2010, it was later announced to be the album's second single. The first track from the album, it was written by Mars along with his production team The Smeezingtons with Brody Brown, Moe Faisal, Claude Kelly, and Andrew Wyatt.

Critical reception has been mostly positive, with reviewers praising the vocals and emotional lyrics of the heartbreak song. It has peaked at number one in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Poland, the United Kingdom, and on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming his third number-one single in both the United States and the United Kingdom. A music video was released in mid-November 2010.
